I'm just so mad right now that I had to write about it. I'm enrolling in this braille proofreading course and I thought that when they said they only take regular braille paper that they meant the smaller paper 8 by 11 and a half or whatever it is. Just regular brailler paper. But they meant that they take the bigger paper, which is 11/11.5, and I had no idea. So I go and buy the smaller paper for almost 11 bucks, and it was 150 sheets so I think I'm all good, then I find out that it felt like printer paper. So I'm a little worried because I thought they meant that it had to be just smoothe paper. But the woman told me that I can't use it and I just spent money on it for nothing? So of course I was pissed off. She said that continuous or noncontinuous paper is ok. And all this time I was worried that I couldn't use printer paper. Well these people need to be a little more clear in what they're talking about then. So anyway I had to buy more paper and I got a hundred sheets of the desired size, and then I found out that I had to pay shipping, and I wasn't expecting that either. So I spent another ten bucks on this other paper. I'm just pissed off I guess because I could only use the paper I got today in the mail for my letter, and other than that i just wasted my money. At least I got the problem taken care of though, but it still really annoys me. I just hope this course is worth it all.
Why not just resell it on ebay or try to find a seller who has paper with free matter for the blind shipping? Guess the last one's not an option now but still. That's certainly annoying though. I mean, how the hell were you supposed to know that "regular" meant big?
Aah, cool, since this is a good venue to vent about unnecessary spending, get this people:
If you get a home security system they rush you a bunch of paperwork, and if you are fools like I am, you sign it and send it back.
Part of this paperwork, almost always, is that the contract automatically renews for the year starting 3 years from signature date, and apparently the small print says that you have to notify them in writing 90 days in advance, and then they make it almost impossible to notify them but keep withdrawing money from your account.
So, beware of this, I may have to pay around 300 dollars to these guys and I neither hve a housenor their equipment any more, I am paying them for absolutely nothing, and just imagine how much braille paper this can buy you, regular or small.
End of my rant.
i'd question attending a school which is so vague. anyone with half a brain knows that regular paper is the notebook size. that's what sighted folks use. you ever seen one of them use that big square paper? I don't think so.
as for the security system, you can appeal that through your credit card or bank. that is bordering on fraudulent i think. i'm not a lawyer, but that is just plain wrong.
reminds me of those stupid record clubs in the 1970s. get 6 albums for a penny. then you can;'t stop them from ssending you over priced stuff.
Wish it were so, but apparently these types of contracts are legal in North Carolina, most states consider them illegal, NC does, so fr,Careful with Home secutity, that;'s all I'm saying.
consider these legal contracts.
Well, I tried to see if I could get my money back from the site that I got the 8 and a half by 1 paper, the regular note book sized. I said that it didn't say on their website that it was continuous feed printer paper and that it was regular brailler paper. So I dunno. The guy thought that was strange. But it's the same paper that they use to make their braille books that they sell, so who knows. But anyway, I couldn't get a refund, I could only buy something that was worth the price of that paper, and I don't know what else I'd buy. I've bought stuff from them before and I think I have everything I want, so I guess I'm stuck with it. But at least the big 11.5 by 11 pieces I'll have for the proofreading course, and the other stuff I can do grosery lists for. I just wished I could've gotten at least the 11 bucks back, but oh well.
It's always the fine print that ends up biting you in the end. Still, they should have been more spacific. Maybe you can find some use for that paper. While we're at it, watch out for scams! They can literally empty your bank account and sometimes worse.
